The Country Club of Rochester’s dress code is designed to incorporate today’s more casual lifestyles while still respecting the Club’s longstanding traditions and standards of excellence for which the Club is renowned.  All members, their families, and guests of all ages, are asked to subscribe to a dress code that is in keeping with the traditions of the finest private clubs in the country. To assist in that goal some definitions of appropriate dress at the Club are provided below.

  • Golf Course Dress Code
    • Gentlemen & Junior Boys 

      • ✦ Golf shirts must have a collar or must be a recognized golf shirt design, (e.g. mock turtle or turtle neck). Shirts must be tucked into the trousers.  

      • ✦ Tailored trousers or shorts are required. The following are not permitted: sweat pants, cargo pants or shorts, blue jeans, tennis shorts. 

        ✦ Hats must be worn bill forward. 

      • ✦ Metal spike golf shoes are not permitted.   

      Ladies & Junior Girls

      • ✦ Sleeveless tops are permitted provided they have a collar and conversely, any top worn without a collar must have sleeves. Tank, tube and halter tops are not permitted.  

      • ✦  Tops must be tucked in except those with banded edges.  

      • ✦ Conservative tailored golf skirts, shorts or pants (including Capri length) are appropriate. The following are not permitted:  short skirts or shorts (e.g. tennis length), blue jeans, cargo pants or shorts, sweat and spandex pants/shorts.

      • ✦ Hats must be worn bill forward. 

  • Clubhouse Dress Code
    • Living Room, Library, and Main Dining Room 

      • ✦ Men: Jackets, collared shirts and ties (golf attire only at specified events). 

      • ✦ Women: Clothes of comparable formality.

      Hunt Room, Upper Terrace 

      • ✦ Men: Jackets and collared or turtleneck shirts.

      • ✦ Women: Clothes of comparable formality.

      Board Room, Homestead Room, Thistle Room, Donald Ross Room, Hagen Dining, Terrace, Hagen Pub 

      • ✦ Men: Neat, collared or turtleneck shirts. Tailored trousers or shorts. 

      • ✦ Women: Clothes of comparable formality.   

      Thistle Grill 

      • ✦ Casual area:  Jeans, workout clothes, and sweat suits are permitted.

      Hats/Caps 

      • ✦ Gentlemen are asked to remove their hats/caps in the Clubhouse. Women are not allowed visors in the Club, but may wear hats appropriate to their style of formal or informal, but not sports, attire.  Hats are permitted in Thistle Grill, but please remove while dining. 

  • Athletics Dress Code
    • Fitness Facility 

      • ◆ Workout clothes, sweat suits, jogging shorts, t-shirts & hats.


      Swimming Pool 

      • ◆ Only swim suits are permitted to be worn in the pool, and are appropriate only in the pool and playground areas. Informal attire is appropriate in the Thistle Grill Pool area.  Shoes, shirts & cover ups are required in the Clubhouse.


      Tennis & Platform Tennis  

      • ◆ Proper footwear & attire must be worn on the courts.

       
      Skating Rink

      • ◆ Attire is not restricted. 

  • Attire Definitions
    • Golf Attire
      ✦ Gentlemen: Pants, conservative-length shorts, tucked in collared shirts and foul weather suits
      ✦ Ladies: Pants, pull-on pant with back pockets, skirts, skorts, shorts and dresses must reach a minimum of mid-thigh in length. Sleeved or sleeveless collared or performance crew neck shirts. Collared racerback or tapered back tops are permitted provided they have collars and undergarments do not show.
      ✦ Denim jeans, cargo pants, athletic shorts and sweat clothes are not appropriate golf attire. Only approved golf shoes with non-penetrating spikes or sneakers are permitted. The changing of shoes and/or clothes must be done in the locker rooms. Neatness in dress is always a prerequisite and extremely important.

      Country Club Casual
      ✦ Golf attire, business attire with neatly pressed, properly fitting slacks with appropriate shirt with collar or mock collar. Khakis or trousers with collared shirts for men; casual slacks with appropriate tops or dresses for ladies. Shirt tails must be tucked inside men’s trousers. Men must remove hats, visors or caps when indoors and under covers or in all dining areas including the terrace.

      Business Casual
      ✦ Suits and sport coats are required with collared or mock collared shirts and neatly pressed and properly fitted slacks. Ties are optional. Women may wear dresses and skirts, business suits, pants suits, and dress slacks with appropriate tops. Boys under age twelve (12) are not required to wear jackets.

      Formal Attire
      ✦ Jackets with ties for gentlemen, including business suits, or blazer and tie with dress trousers. For ladies, dresses and skirts, business suits, formal pant suits, and dress pants with appropriate tops. For gentlemen, a jacket with a full fold-over turtle neck sweater is considered appropriate formal attire.

      Black Tie
      ✦ Tuxedo required for gentlemen. Formal dresses or gowns are required for ladies. Slacks or pant suits would be inappropriate in a black-tie setting.

      Informal Attire
      ✦ Jeans, workout clothes and sweat suits are permitted. Hats allowed bill forward. Swimsuit with footwear and cover-up permitted inside the clubhouse.

      Fitness/Tennis Attire
      ✦ Appropriate shorts, shirts, workout clothing, and athletic shoes.

  • Cellular Phones and Electronic Devices Policies
    • The Country Club of Rochester has always been committed to providing our members and their guests a relaxing and enjoyable environment. Phones should be set on silence at all times while on Club property.  The discreet and non-audible use of cell phones for text, emails etc. is allowed in all other areas of the Club and grounds with the exception of the main dining areas (Grill Porch, Grill Terrace, Main Dining Room, and Hunt Room). With this in mind, we ask all members and guests to use the following guidelines with respect to the use of cell phones and other electronic devices.

      Electronic Devices The use of laptop computers and other electronic devices is limited to guest rooms and rooms booked for meeting purposes.  Members are responsible for their family and guests in respect to this policy.
